Abstract
At the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX centuries the ruling circles of the Korean empire, while solving the problems of strengtheng the state and ensuring the control efficiency, paid attention to such a tool of policy and ideology as a reward system. On April the 17,1900, a national reward system and the first Orders were instituted by the emperor's decree No. 13. After 1948 when forming and developing their state institutions in the atmosphere of a harsh mutual confrontation and rivalry both the North and South did not disregard this important tool of the political and ideological influence of the State machinery, the military and the population as a whole. On the threshold of and with the beginning of the Korean war in June 1950 the North and the South strengthened their reward tools, establishing orders and medals encouraging heroic actions and self-sacrifice in the armed straggle. At present Southern Korea has a formed and quite effective reward system answering its main purpose of stimulating and encouraging the population to successfully solve the priority tasks set by the state's leadership in the field of policy, economy, ideology and culture. The same can be said about the "Northerners" modern reward system as well.
