Abstract
The policy of England and Turkey with regard to Circassia had passed several phases in the first half of the XlX century. Initially the ties had a commercial character. In the following period characterized by the emergence of the Eastern question at the end of the XVIII cent, the Adygeis found themselves drawn into the sphere of the political and economic interests of Russia, England and Tyrkey. The activization of Turkish policy in the North-Western Caucasus coincided with the periods of the Russian-Turk-ish wars. The concluding of the Adrianople (1829) and the Unkyar-Iskelessi (1833) treaties had made England anxious; it make its government give the British embassy in Constantinople a task to eliminate Russia’s influence in the region. In spite of the fact that in official documents and at the meetings of different states’ diplomats England occupied a position friendly to the mountain-dwellers the English government did not want a conflict with Russia because of Circassia. In the plans of England and Turkey Circassia was given the role of a barrier against Russia’s Eastern policy. Circassia was also regarded by London as the sphere of England’s economic influence.
