Abstract

The article concerns the question of the ethnic Russians’ demographic and economic presence in the frontier of China. This presence has determined the peculiar character of the frontier relations of the China, especially concerning the history of the Russians in this region after the construction of the Chinese Eastern railway (KVZHD), whose centenary was marked in 2003. One of the sources used by the author was a unique archival material of the Russian security service (FSB) administration for the Chita region about the Russians at the Chinese frontier before 1945. Another group of sources are those in the Chinese language: collections of the main indices of the Khulunbuirsk aimak of China’s ARVM* for the years 1998-2000, historical descriptions of the town of Manchuria, of the agriculture and nationalities of the Khulun-buirsk aimak, a chronicle of ARVM, a record of the events of the history of the town of Khailar, etc, the information of which is for the first time used in science in our country.
