Abstract
Several important aspects of the legal and administrative history of the traditional China are touched on in the article. The article contains an analysis of the legal instructions of the main monument of China's criminal law of the time of the Tang dynasty's rule - the famous Tang Code "Tang luy shu I"; elucidated also are the history of its composing and study. Briefly touched on are the general philosophical foundations of a specific situation of an official and the officialdom in traditional China, and also the specific character determined by these foundations of the approach of the criminal law to different kinds of crimes perpetrated by the officials and to the methods of the legal reaction to them. The honest service and the disinterested attitude to the duties were one of the main virtues of Confucianism and the ethnic code of the Bureaucracy, and exactly for that reason these virtues were strictly and meticulously guarded by law threatening with criminal punishment for their violation.
