Abstract
The modern radical Islam threatens many countries of South-East Asia, and not only those where the Moslems are the majority of the population, but also the Philippines (which the mainly Catholic population) and Thailand (where the majority of believers are Buddhists). Moreover on the Philippines and in Thailand in the localities of a compact Moslem population the Islamic extremists do not cease the many years straggle with the local authorities demanding turning such areas into separate independent territories which would live according to the sharia. In Malaysia and Indonesia the situation is more complicated, because there are a serious as counterbalance to Islamic radicals and their demands for the creation of a state based on the sharia moderate Islamic circles who are quite in agreement with the secular rule. For the present the moderates manage to control the situation, but they are constantly under pressure of the radicals who use any opportunity to realize their plans.
