Abstract
The author refutes that the ethnic name Sakha (Yakut) emerged by borrowing in from the Evenk language as a result of the Yakut-Evenk mutual linguistic influences. He comes to a conclusion that this ethnic name in the Yakut language is a age-old Turkic word, which gives ground for revising the view about the contacts between the Yakuts and the Evenks in the early Middle Ages. The author comes to the conclusion that the ties of the Yakut language with the Evenk and the Even languages began only after the 12 century.
