Abstract

The article proves that three East African countries (namely Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) are currently caught in the Malthusian trap and should make considerable efforts in order to escape from this trap. Particular attention is given to analyzing the demographic indicators and the specific aspects of urbanization processes, especially to such risk factors as the "youth bulge" and the explosive growth of urban population forecasted by the UN.
