Abstract
This work reveals unsufficiently depicted theme of Islamic influences to the Bengal Renaissance thinkers. The understanding of Other religion and of Muslim as Other of different religion are analyses in its character of hermeneutical problem, which was decided be Rammohun Roy, derozians, brahmoists, neo-hihduists and liberal politics. Rammohun Roy's understanding of Islamic meanings seems deepest but his spiritual inheritors do this selectively. This selective character of understanding shows instrumental role one's hermeneutics, because meanings of Islam served to better comprehension of Hinduism, its social system and culture from the point of ideal for future development. But that hermeneutics in spite of its limitedness paradoxically realized the understanding as object and plays positive role in evolution of Bengal religious and social thought.
