Abstract
Cave monastic complex Mogaoku (also known as Thousand Buddha Caves) is located near the old city of Dunhuang in western China. This monastery was founded in IV century AD and fl ourished for almost one thousand years. It became one of main Buddhist's centers on Silk Road. Complex is famous by its fi nest murals and statues. The main treasure of Thousand Buddha Caves was hidden until 1900, when an immured chamber, fi lled with manuscripts, was discovered. This chamber contained fifty thousand of books, documents and paintings, dated from V to XI centuries AD, full of priceless information about history, culture and religions of all Asian region. This discovery can be graded as the greatest event in XX century's Oriental studies.
