Abstract
Commemorating the sixty years of the journal “Vostok (Oriens)”, the author examines current trends in Oriental studies in Russia and abroad. He states that the concept of Orient is necessary for the historical, political, cultural, anthropological, social, religious and other humanitarian studies. The idea of Orient has changed through time and space but the Orient has existed despite its boundaries and content differ in various times and spaces.
