Abstract
The article attempts to reveal the semantics of ancient geographical name Ergtinekun. The author analyses all cases of using the orographic term qun in the text of “The Secret History of Mongols” with variants of its translation into Russian, English, Modern Mongolian, Buryat and Kalmyk. The morphemic structure of the word ergtine is considered.
