Abstract
The author focuses on the overall trends and issues related to Indian student migration and consequent brain drain effects. On the one hand, the current situation causes much concern for India as it can be left behind in the era of global knowledge economy. On the other hand, though there is evidence that brain drain has been steadily evolving into brain exchange which, in the long run, can serve country’s sustainable development. Brain exchange or brain circulation can be described in terms of reverse migration; a role of Overseas Citizens of India and other members of Indian Diaspora; increasing processes of collaboration and partnership between Indian and foreign institutes in academic and research spheres.
