Abstract

Publication of the Book of Great Unity (Datong shu) by Kang Youwei (1858-1927) was stretched from 1913 to 1935. Kang Youwei stated that he began to write it in 1884 but this statement does not fi t some feateres of the text/ Chinese scholar Tang Zhijun substantiates the idea that the writing text was started in 1901 or 1902 in India and supplemented until the Kangs death. The problem of exact dating of Datong shu is closely connected with the study of the intellectual evolution by Kang Youwei and the Chinese reception of Western intellectual currents.
