Abstract
This article deals with a terminological system that has been developing for centuries for describing Tibetan writing. The system nowadays reflects peculiarities of Tibetans’ traditional understanding of writing. The article analyses a history of forming Tibetan writing’s theoretical principles, i.e. the so-called Tibetan theory of writing. The authors describe the graphic elements of Tibetan writing and relationships between them, study different ways of their presentation in the sources and arrangethe examined terms into classes. As a result, it allows defining the character of Tibetan theory of writing’s terminological system and its components.
